Ludhiana : The reports of replacement of Punjab Pradesh Congress (PPCC) chief Partap Singh Bajwa have brought cheers among the expelled and disgruntled group of Congressmen.
After the resentment against Bajwa, the party high command is likely to replace him and the names of senior Congress leader Lal Singh is doing the rounds.
A major reshuffle in Congress leadership is likely to be expected on Monday, in which the state president of Punjab, Gujarat and some other states is expected. As the reports of change in state leadership came, the expelled and disgruntled leaders cheered up. Sources said that former finance minister and former PPCC chief Lal Singh is likely to be new president of PPCC and at the same time, the name of leader of Opposition in Vidhan Sabha Sunil Jakhar is said to be also in the race for PPCC chief. Both the leaders are considered close to former Chief Minister and Deputy Leader of Congress in Lok Sabha Captain Amarinder Singh.
Senior Congress leader and former district Congress president Pawan Dewan said that the replacement of Bajwa will boost the party and the suffocated leaders have now cheered up.
“Bajwa was running B Company not the Congress and now the time has come that he will be given reward for his dictatorial attitude,” said Dewan. He further said that with the replacement of Bajwa, All India Congress Committee secretary Harish Chaudhary should also be replaced.
Expelled Congress leader and secretary All India Jat Mahasabha Gursimran Singh Mand said that at present, the people of Punjab were afraid of state government but they have no option other than Shiromani Akali Dal as Congress led by Bajwa was almost dead in the state.
It is pertinent to mention here that after Gurpreet Gogi Bassi was appointed as district Congress president replacing Pawan Dewan, factionalism in Congress came to the fore.
Senior leader Pawan Dewan, Gursimran Mand and four block presidents were removed by Bajwa and after that the resentment against Bajwa increased among local Congress leaders.
Meanwhile, district Congress president Gurpreet Bassi Gogi said that whosever will be appointed as new president of party by high command, they will accept him and continue to work for the Congress.
