PATIALA: Though there was no official word from the All India Congress Committee (AICC) on Partap Singh Bajwa’s replacement with senior Congress leader Lal Singh for the post of Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee chief, but the change was visible at the ground level.

At the ‘bhog’ ceremony of late Jasjeet Singh Randhawa, Congress’ sitting and former MLAs and other prominent leaders were meeting Lal Singh.

Bajwa baiter Tripat Rajinder Bajwa, Jagmohan Singh Kang, Bir Devinder Singh and Ranjit Singh Chajjwalwandi were among the leaders who congratulated Lal Singh after the ceremony concluded.

More than 20 sitting and former MLAs, prominent leaders of Congress from Punjab, including MLA Sahdu Singh Dharamsot, Charanjit Singh Channi, former minister Gurchet Bhullar and Sardool Singh Bandala were seen hobnobbing with Lal Singh when Bajwa was very much present at the spot and was having an informal talk with media. Many also visited the residence of Lal Singh.

Lal Singh, accepted the wishes, but asked everyone to “wait for the AICC directive”.

During the ceremony, when they asked Bajwa about rumours over Lal Singh as the new PPCC president, he said: “Let me tell you, the Congress is not a personal property of any leader. No one has a permanent post. It’s prerogative of the high command to appoint anyone or replace anyone and if the high command, in future, appoints Lal Singh, I will support him”.

“Some leaders think they are bigger than the Congress. They don’t know it’s the party which is bigger and leaders are always smaller,” said Bajwa, taking a dig at Amarinder Singh without naming him.

“I am a foot solider of the Congress. I am not such a leader, who says that I am not, then I wont allow anyone other….let me tell you for me the Congress is important and whosoever be appointed by the AICC president would get my support,” he concluded.
