Ludhiana : After the talks of change in state leadership of Congress party former Union Minister and senior Congress leader Manish Tewari said it was the prerogative of the Congress president Sonia Gandhi to choose the Punjab Congress president and the duty of the loyal Congressmen to accept that.
In an informal conversation with reporters after inaugurating a tube-well in Swatantra Nagar, Ludhiana East assembly segment on Thursday Tewari refused to give any names as who could be the best person to lead the party.
“Each and everybody in and outside Punjab knows as who is the best person to lead the party here”, he remarked, while adding, “Let us leave it to the Congress president Sonia Gandhi as she is the best person to make the right pick.”
Tewari asserted that the Congress was still the number one party in Punjab in terms of popular support and there was no reason for the party not to storm to power in 2017 with a thumping majority. However, he cautioned, the party must not be complacent as it needs to work and act united.
The Congress leader refused to comment on the rebellion in the Aam Aadmi Party saying he did not want to pass any judgement about the functioning of another party as it was their internal matter. “It takes long time to settle down as a stable party”, he remarked.
Earlier, addressing the function after inaugurating the tube-well constructed with the money he provided during his stint as MP from his local area development fund, Tewari lashed out at the Ludhiana Municipal Corporation for cutting down the budget by about Rs 500 crore saying it will badly impact the civic amenities in the city.
He pointed out, even when the budget was Rs 1300 crore, people were crying for amenities and one can well imagine what is going to happen when the budget has been slashed to Rs 800 crore only.
