MOGA: Fissures between Punjab agriculture minister Tota Singh and Moga MLA Joginder Pal Jain widened further on Thursday after several senior Akali leaders raised their voice against the projection of newlyelected municipal councillor Akshit Jain as mayor of the Moga municipal corporation by his father Joginder Pal Jain.

Several sarpanches and three zila parishad members of the Moga block met at Gurdwara Tambu Maal Sahib in Dagru village and opposed Jain for promoting his son as mayor in the presence of senior Akalis.

Sources said that Jain, his son Ahshit Jain, SAD district president Teerath Singh Mahla and SAD organising secretary Nidharak Singh Brar met Punjab deputy chief minister Sukhbir Singh Badal on Wednesday at his housein Chandigarh. These leaders demanded the mayor’s chair for Jain’s son, but sources revealed that Sukhbir did commit anything. As the news reached Moga, angry Akali workers decided to organise a meeting for sending a message to Sukhbir that most local Akali leaders do not want Akshit Jain as mayor because several senior Akali councillors are senior to him.

“There is no reason to give mayor’s post to the MLA’s son. Jain has always tried to damage taksali Akali workers over the years. When we tell about our grievances to Jain, he completely ignores us. Therefore, we decided to support taksali MCs,” said Buta Singh Daulatpura, a zila prishad member.
