PPP leader Lakha accused of killing SAD activist

Bathinda: Bathinda Police on Tuesday claimed to have arrested People’s Party of Punjab (PPP) leader Lakhvir Singh ‘Lakha Sidhana’ for allegedly killing a Shiromani Akali Dal activist Gurbir Singh Goldy, who was shot dead on February 13, outside the Phul administrative complex. Police have recovered five firearms and a luxurious SUV from Lakha’s possession.
Known as a close confidant of PPP chief Manpreet Singh Badal, the accused Lakha had also unsuccessfully contested assembly elections in 2012 from Rampura Phul assembly segment on the PPP’s poll symbol against the SAD’s Sikander Singh Maluka and Congress candidate Gurpreet Singh Kangar.
Divulging details, Bathinda zone Inspector General of Police Paramraj Singh Umranangal, flanked by Bathinda range DIG Mohnish Chawla and Bathinda SSP Indermohan Singh, claimed that Lakha was a notorious gangster and he was booked in 10 criminal cases related to murder, attempt to murder, possessing illicit weapons and dacoity, registered at different police stations across the state in the past.
