Denied OBC quota, Jats to ask for its review, says Capt

PATIALA: With the Supreme Court denying Jats the OBC (Other Backward Classes) quota, the community may now file a review petition, says its leader, Captain Amarinder Singh, who has lost a major issue to target the rival Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD).
“We are waiting for detailed judgment and will explore legal options, which depending on legal opinion, could be going for a review petition,” said Amarinder, national president of the Jat Mahasabha.
The former Punjab chief minister said lakhs of members of the community across states were into poverty and required reservation for a level playing field with rich Jats.
“The previous central government led by the Congress had proposed this quota and the current Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) regime had also approved it, so it should now pursue the case on legal grounds,” said the Congress MP from Amritsar. He has been accusing Punjab chief minister Parkash Singh Badal of not presenting the case to the Centre in time.
Punjab was not among the nine states where Jats were granted reservation.
Hit by criticism, the Punjab government on March 4, 2014, had approved Backward Class (BC) quota for Jats, which also the apex court has dismissed.
