Manpreet Badal, PPP chief, has demanding reopening of the criminal case against Bhagat Singh.
Manpreet said he would move the High Court seeking a review of the conviction. “It will be befitting tribute to the nation’s greatest martyr of the freedom struggle,” he said.
Citing examples of Joan of Arc of France and scientist Galileo, he said there were several examples wherein the court verdict was reviewed and reversed several years after the death of a person. “It is a tragedy that the country’s greatest martyr is still regarded as a convict in court records,” he said.
The PPP chief said, “Bhagat Singh was executed for the murder of a British, assistant superintendent of police John Saunders, in 1928. But the FIR registered on December 17, 1928, at Lahore’s Anarkali Chowk police station does not identify who was behind the murder.”
