Patiala : The blame game between the two warring leaders of the state took yet another turn with Congress deputy leader in Lok Sabha Capt Amarinder Singh accusing Deputy CM Sukhbir Badal of pushing the state into drug addiction and financial bankruptcy.

Capt Amarinder today laughed off Deputy CM’s questioning of the Congress government’s achievements between 2002 and 2007, asking him (Sukhbir) to list his, if he had any, “except for pushing the state into bankruptcy and drug addiction”.

Reacting to Sukhbir’s challenge to the Congress during the recently concluded Budget session in the Vidhan Sabha to list any achievement during its last term, Capt Amarinder said earlier, too, he had provided the Deputy CM with scores of achievements and he was listing these again as a reminder. “And in case you also have any achievements other than pushing the state into drug addiction and financial bankruptcy, please let me know,” Capt asked Sukhbir.

The former Punjab CM said one of the important achievements of his government was to generate a revenue surplus of over Rs2,000 crore during 2006-07. He said it had happened after 20 years and once he demitted office, the state was again pushed to revenue deficit, which was most likely to cross Rs8,000 crore by the end of the current fiscal.

Capt Amarinder reminded Sukhbir that it was his government that had enacted the Punjab Termination of Water Sharing Agreements 2005, ensured hassle-free procurement of foodgrain, introduced BT cotton, set up the Punjab Farmers’ Commission, brought in many private players to encourage diversification and introduced the farm to fork concept. “Tell me, what you have done on the agriculture front,” Capt asked the Deputy CM.
