Amritsar : Radical Sikh outfit Dal Khalsa has asked the Akali government as to why it was silent on the Army assault on the Golden Temple in June 1984 even though the Assembly unanimously adopted a resolution, asking the Centre to seek an apology from the Canadian Government for the Komagata Maru tragedy. Nineteen Punjabis were killed in Calcutta in the tragedy.
Dal Khalsa spokesperson Kanwar Pal Singh said for years, the Akali Dal had been demanding an apology from the Centre for the Operation Bluestar and the November 1984 anti-Sikh pogrom. He said this was the right time for the Akali Dal to adopt a resolution in the Assembly on the issue. Singh said the SAD-BJP government should press the Modi government to adopt a resolution in the Lok Sabha on the issue. He said the government should apologise for the blunder that was codenamed “Operation Bluestar”.
He further said the Akali Dal was part of the NDA government and as such couldn’t take refuge in any excuse.
