Patiala : Congress Deputy Leader in the Lok Sabha Capt Amarinder Singh on Saturday challenged Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal to prove him wrong that the state was not revenue surplus in 2006-07 when he was the Chief Minister.
Reacting to Badal’s claims that he was lying about the revenue figures in 2006-07 when the state had revenue surplus of Rs 2,000 crore, Capt Amarinder Singh asserted, “Let Badal prove me wrong and I will quit politics and if he fails to do so (prove me wrong) he should better resign himself for misleading the public.”
The former Chief Minister pointed out, it was all on record and nobody except Badal can lie and even back out from records. “Not only were we revenue surplus, but we had also met all the expenses including timely payment to farmers for their crops during the procurement and also the timely payment of old age pensions and shagun schemes”, he said while only listing a few welfare measures that had been carried out by his government and still remaining revenue surplus.
“I can understand Badal’s disbelief,” Capt Amarinder Singh remarked, while adding, “For a man who has continuously presided over doom and bankruptcy of the state for last so many years, anybody telling him about state having been revenue surplus when he took over, would be too shocking for him to believe”. He also did not rule out Badal knowingly lying about the figures. “Given his nature of being a congenital liar, there is a possibility also that Badal may be deliberately trying to hide the facts from the public, despite knowing the facts very well”, he remarked.
The former Chief Minister said it was not for the first time that the Akalis had challenged him about his achievements as they had done so earlier also. He said, he had released 51 achievements to the media, with a copy to the Badals, way back in 2011 and the Akalis had no answers even then as they do not have any answers now.
“Apparently having forgotten that they were dumbfound four years ago they raised the issue once more and are now running for the cover by trying to take refuge under lies which come so conveniently to Badal”, he observed, while disclosing that he was resending the list (of his achievements) once again to Badal to refresh his memory and facts.
