Chandigarh : Congress Deputy Leader in the Lok Sabha Captain Amarinder Singh on Tuesday asked the Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal “to do something better and concrete for the farmers and common Punjabis than merely dedicating his Padma Vibhushan to them.”
Reacting to Badal claiming that he had dedicated the award to the farmers and Punjabis, Capt Amarinder asked, “What consolation will they get by your characteristic lip service?” He advised Badal to “set his house in order.”
He alleged that agriculture was “faced with the worst crisis in Punjab while common Punjabi was faced with uncertainty. Industry was moving out and the unemployment was on the rise. Scores of farmers had committed suicide in distress. How should it matter to the families of the farmers who have committed suicide in distress that you dedicate your award to them?,” he asked.
