Jalandhar : Congress Legislature Party (CLP) leader Sunil Jakhar on Friday slammed the BJP-led Prime Minister Narendra Modi government for the miscarriage of a teacher due to police high-handedness and sought an apology from him.

Jakhar said that the police picked the teachers to stop them from showing black flags to PM Modi during his visit to Hussainiwala on March 23, hence the miscarriage.

The Congress leader also slammed the ruling SAD-BJP government for turning a blind eye towards the miscarriage incident even as it led to state-wide protests. “Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal and Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal should have apologised for such a crime. It was the moral duty of the state government to respond to such a sensitive issue”, he said.

Addressing a press conference after meeting the victim teacher Rajni’s parents, Jakhar said that while the Modi government has announced Rs 1,000 crore for women safety but women were suffering under their rule. “If women security was the priority of Modi government, then why were the teachers stopped from showing black flags to Modi? Public could not be stopped from protesting in a democracy”, he said.

Jakhar said that he raised Rajni’s issue during the budget session and drew the attention of CM and Deputy CM but to no avail. “Even the BJP leadership condemned this incident after the budget session but none came forward to apologise” he questioned.

The CLP leader said that if justice was not done within a week’s time, he would approach the Punjab Governor and seek justice for Rajni. “The Governor should bring this matter to PM Modi’s notice while compensation should also be given to Rajni. The guilty police cop should also be booked”, he said.

Further, he also took a dig at Local Bodies Minister, who had opened front against his own government when his brother was attacked during the local bodies elections and termed it as ‘Aurangzeb ka Raj’. “It was rather ‘Kans ka Raj’ in the state that a teacher suffered a miscarriage because of the government orders”, he added.

Earlier in the day, Jalandhar MP Santokh Singh Chaudhary also met Rajni’s family and sought immediate registration of FIR against sub-inspector Bhupinder Singh. “I will raise this issue in the parliament session on April 20 to make Modi aware”, he said.

Among those present were MLA Rana Gurjeet Singh, Guriqbal Kaur, Ramanjit Singh Sikki besides ex-cabinet minister Amarjit Singh Samra and Chaudhary Santokh Singh. Congress urban and rural president Rajinder Beri and Jagbir Singh Brar were also present.
