Dhuri : Former Chief Minister Rajinder Kaur Bhattal today said the Land Acquisition Act passed by the UPA government was pro-farmer while the legislation being pushed by the NDA government was “anti-farmer”. She said the Congress would not tolerate any change in the Act.

Bhattal was campaigning in this village in support of Congress candidate Simar Pratap Singh Barnala. She also campaigned in some other villages, including Rurgarh, Katron, Changli, Ghanaur Kalan. She was accompanied by Rakesh Pandey, MLA from Ludhiana.

Bhattal said Surjit Singh Barnala did not stab the SAD in the back. It was CM Parkash Singh Badal who did so when he opposed the Rajiv-Longowal Accord in 1985, signed by Harchand Singh Longowal to establish peace in the state.

About Amarinder Singh's tour to the Dhuri constituency on April 6 and 8, she said Amarinder Singh was coming to campaign as fielding of Simar Pratap Barnala as Congress candidate was a decision of AICC president Sonia Gandhi. She said everyone in the Congress respected the decision of Sonia Gandhi.

Bhattal also lashed out at Badal on the issues of Anandpur Sahib Resolution and Punjabi Suba Morcha. She said Badal was also making efforts to blackmail Dhuri people, saying they should vote for the SAD candidate if they needed development grants.
