CHANDIGARH: Punjab Congress chief Pratap Singh Bajwa has written to the Punjab and Haryana high court chief justice, demanding a time-bound probe by a sitting judge of the high court into the suicide of an Amritsar-based cable operator.

In his letter, Bajwa pointed out that the incident took place before a sitting and a retired judge of the Supreme Court, besides a sitting judge of the Punjab and Haryana high court during a function organised by the telecom disputes appellate tribunal in Amritsar.

“It has been widely reported that before taking the extreme step, the operator expressed his helplessness and complete indifference shown by the government authorities in Punjab. It is abundantly clear from the turn of events that the cable operator’s repeated pleas for justice were not heeded. In addition, he was being subjected to harassment and intimidation by the powerful cable TV lobby, which is thriving because of the direct interest of the ruling family in the state,” states the letter.
