Bardwal (Dhuri) :Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal today held an election rally here. He spoke about grants given by him at a recently held Sangat Darshan programme in the village. He assured the villagers if they elected Longowal, he (Badal) would come to the village again to hold another programme.

The CM alleged the Congress had rewarded the Barnala family for “serving the party for a long time and for betraying the state as well as the SAD.”

Badal said despite opposition by Congressmen, Sonia Gandhi allotted the ticket to Simar Pratap Singh saying that she had already made a promise to the Barnala family.

The Chief Minister alleged that he had asked some Congressmen as to why the party high command had not fielded its own leader in the by-election, they said when they approached Sonia Gandhi to oppose the decision, no one paid heed to their views.

He alleged the Barnala family had hatched conspiracies due to which the Congress succeeded in diverting the state’s river waters and denying Punjab its capital.

Badal said on the day of Harchand Singh Longowal’s assassination, he had visited Chandigarh where he was told that he (Longowal) had been betrayed by the Congress in the name of Rajiv-Longowal Accord.

When asked why he has been targeting the Barnala family at every election meeting, Badal said he had also talked about development and communal harmony in the area.

The CM claimed the state was planning to sell surplus power to other states.

Others present at the rally included Finance Minister Parminder Singh Dhindsa, Cabinet Minister Ajit Singh Kohar, former minister Upinderjit Kaur and Gobind Singh Longowal.
