DADHOGAL (SANGRUR): Congress deputy leader in the Lok Sabha and Amritsar Member of Parliament (MP) Captain Amarinder Singh on Wednesday accused Punjab chief minister Parkash Singh Badal of misusing the funds of the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbhandak Committee (SGPC) for over 20 years.
Former CM Capt Amarinder Singh with CLP leader Sunil Jakhar and Congress-backed candidate Simar Pratap Singh Barnala during a poll rally at Dhuri in Sangrur district on Wednesday.
The Captain was in town to attend a series of public rallies in support of Congress-backed Sanjha Morcha candidate Simar Pratap Singh Barnala at Dadhogal, Bhullar Heri, and Bhalwan villages and also touched upon the Sutlej-Yamuna link (SYL) link issue.
“In 1977, Badal accepted ` 2 crore from Devi Lal to construct Sutlej Yamuna Link (SYL) and now he has again accepted ` 3 crore from the ML Khattar-led BJP government in Haryana to raise embankments and to give extra water to Haryana,” he claimed, adding the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) had been reduced to being the ‘Badal Dal’.
He also alleged that the Badals had been intent on making gains for themselves and had done nothing for the state. “The recent grants to Dhuri have been only bribe to buy votes,” he told supporters at an election meet.
TARGETS SUKHBIR
Targeting Punjab deputy chief minister Sukhbir Singh Badal, he said, “Sukhbir’s claims of making Punjab power-surplus are yet to come true.”
“Elect Simar, as this will be the first step towards forming a Congress government in 2017. Our fight is not against the SAD, it is against the Badals,” he claimed, adding that he did not foresee any incident of booth capturing on April 11.
Over a dozen former and present MLAs, including the leader of opposition in assembly Sunil Jakhar and Patiala MLA Preneet Kaur accompanied Amarinder.
