Ludhiana : A day after accusing Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal of pocketing crores of rupees per day through sand and gravel mining, Independent MLA brothers Simarjeet Bains and Balwinder Singh Bains levelled snooping allegations against the city police today.

The Bains brothers alleged the cops were tapping their phones. “While I was being taken away by the police after the arrest, I received a call from one of my supporters. Soon the policeman, who had arrested me, received a phone call from his officer saying how my (Bains) phone was working even after being arrested. The policeman then requested me to hand over my phone to him,” said Simarjeet Bains.

Around 12 personnel of the CID and other intelligences agencies were deployed at the venue for snooping while he conducted a press conference yesterday. Heavy police arrangement was made near the venue to scare away his supporters, he said.

The MLA brothers who recently formed the Team Insaf for launching a state-wide protest against illegal sand and gravel mining said on Saturday that the police assaulted elderly woman Kashmir Kaur and five other Team Insaf members while they were holding a peaceful protest.

The Opposition has, meanwhile, taken potshots at the formation of Team Insaf. SAD MLA Ranjit Singh Shillon termed the agitation as a drama, while Ishwarjot Singh Cheema, chairman of the Economic and Political Planning Cell of the Congress, said the Team Insaf was nothing but a B team of the SAD.

Cheema said Bains brothers lifted the formula of launching an anti-government protest from the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) as the latter was loosing sheen because of infighting.
