LUDHIANA: Brothers Simarjit Singh Bains and Balwinder Singh Bains, both Independent MLAs, have started a helpline for people who want to share their grievances and are keen to join hands against corruption. The helpline number is 02261934691.

The Bains brothers have already announced a satyagraha (agitation) against the Akali-BJP government over the sand mafia’s activities in Punjab. Volunteers from various sections of society are approaching their camp to become members of their Team Insaaf.

Speaking to Hindustan Times, Simarjit said, “This is just the beginning. Team Insaaf will not rest till it takes this crusade against corruption to its conclusion.”

He admitted to being inspired by Anna Hazare’s movement. “It is good to follow in someone’s footsteps in the interest of society. We have donned saffron caps and ribbons to remember the sacrifice of Shaheed Bhagat Singh, Rajguru and Sukhdev,” Simarjit added.

He revealed that people from across the state were approaching Team Insaaf. Simarjit claimed that during a recent visit to Nawanshahr, more than 600 people were waiting for him, including many who were holding copies of FIRs. “I am warning the Badal government that the registration of fake FIRs will boomerang against them in the next assembly elections. Despotic ways will not last long,” the MLA said.

When asked about his plans for the 2017 assembly polls, Simarjit stated that after consolidating Team Insaaf, he would announce the formation of a front that would take the SADBJP alliance head-on. “We will ensure that honest, educated and hard-working individuals make it to the assembly,” he added.

Taking a jibe at the Punjab Congress, he claimed that the party unit had failed to act as a strong opposition due to vested interests.

Referring to state party president Partap Singh Bajwa, Simarjit said he had facilitated the Shiromani Akali Dal in carrying on with its high-handed approach.

QUESTION FOR CM

Simarjit posed a question to Punjab chief minister Parkash Singh Badal: “Despite news reports pointing towards the Badal family’s links with the sand mafia, why has the chief minister failed to act against the mafia?”
