CHANDIGARH: Congress Legislature Party leader Sunil Jakhar on Tuesday said he stuck to his earlier statement that the SAD-BJP government had failed to pay compensation to farmers for the loss of paddy crop last year.

Reacting to chief minister Parkash Singh Badal’s statement that Jakhar had been misleading the farmers by distorting the facts, the latter reminded the CM that he had announced the compensation to the farmers during his visit to Abohar on September 15, 2014. He said that even after seven months of the announcement, the farmers were yet to get even a single rupee.

Jakhar said the compensation of `51 crore for Muktsar and `32 crore for Fazilka districts was pending since September last year. He slammed the government saying the Centre had released the state disaster response funds of `203 crore from the central pool and `67 crore from the state for the affected farmers but the state government had diverted these funds for other purposes.
