Chandigarh: Punjab Congress President Partap Singh Bajwa has maintained that “no individual could be held responsible for the outcome of the Dhuri Assembly by-election as the victory or defeat was a collective process.”

However, at the same time, he slammed Arvind Khanna for “backstabbing the Congress” saying he was in league with the SAD. It may be mentioned that it was Khanna’s resignation, a Congress MLA and close-aide of former Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh, which had necessitated the by-election.

Talking to media persons, Bajwa attributed the huge margin to the “misuse of official machinery and money power.” At the same time, he said there was a big communication gap between the Congress cadres and the Barnalas, family of the party candidate Simar Partap Singh Barnala. The main Opposition Congress had entered the electoral field as a disjointed and embattled party which had refused to learn any lesson from the successive defeats in Punjab since 2007.
