LUDHIANA: The police have again detained nearly 35 followers of Bains brothers — independent legislators Balwinder Singh Bains and Simarjit Singh Bains — in another human chain protest against illegal mining and other mafia.

On Wednesday evening, these followers, , including local municipal councillor Randhir Singh Sibia, were forming the human chain at Jalandhar Bypass Chowk when the police came over and seized their placards, banners, posters, and other printed material. “It was peaceful protest from which our supporters, including councillor Sibia, were removed and taken to the Ladowal and Hambran police stations,” said MLA Simarjit Bains.

“Later, the police raided at the houses of councillors Swarandeep Chahal and Daljit Singh Bhola and seized more publicity material; but we will continue the crusade and not give up,” he said.

On Saturday, the police had arrested Bains brothers and their 150 supporters from a similar agitation on the Ferozepur road and, later, released them on bail.
