CHANDIGARH: People’s Party of Punjab (PPP) chief Manpreet Singh Badal on Friday demanded immediate relief for farmers and relaxation in specifications for procurement of wheat in the state.
“The rough weather has damaged the crops across the state. The quality of wheat grain has been affected which cannot pass the laid specifications. Potato farmers have also been severely hit. The state government should come to their rescue without waiting for the release of relief from the Union government and the specifications for wheat should be relaxed,” he said in a statement here.
Referring to the announcement made by the Haryana government to procure wheat with shrivelled and broken grain even up to 6% at the minimum support price, Manpreet regretted that the Punjab government was yet to make any such announcement.
