Simarjit Bains, supporters sent to judicial custody

LUDHIANA: MLA Simarjit Singh Bains, along with his supporters, was produced in a court here on Saturday evening. They were later sent to judicial custody.

Police sources said a case was also registered against them under Section 307 (attempt to murder) of the IPC. Sources said a statement was added in the case that the Bains supporters tried to run over the cops at Chuharwal from where the Bains brothers had started the ‘satyagraha’ against the sand mafia. It was learnt that Simarjit, MLA Balwinder Singh Bains and around two dozen supporters were sent to different jails of the state, including Mansa, Sangrur and others.

Ajaypreet Singh, son of Simarjit Singh, claimed that they were not allowed to meet him. A huge police force was deployed to deal with Bains’ supporters trying to meet them.
