PATIALA: Local MP Dharamvira Gandhi on Sunday condemned the action of the state government against Bains brothers, who have been protesting against the sand mafia in the state.

Independent legislators (MLAs) Simarjit Singh Bains and Balwinder Singh Bains were arrested on April 17 for launching a “satyagraha” (agitation) against the sand mafia in Chuharwal village, 17 km from Ludhiana. Gandhi said that it an unfortunate thing for democracy that as even leaders cannot demonstrate against the mafia culture in the state.

Gandhi said that the ruling government of SAD- BJP first captured the industrial sector and now they are capturing the natural resources of the state. “Due to this condition, labour unions have been protesting for their rights,” he said. He said that the state government formulated a new method to loot the people.

“The capturing of sand in the name of regulation is the best example by which government is protecting the mafia and taking action against the people such as the Bains brothers,” Gandhi said.
