CHANDIGARH: Punjab Congress Legislature Party (CLP) leader Sunil Jakhar said at the party’s farmers’ rally in New Delhi on Sunday that growers had been running from pillar to post to recover `19,000 crore against the sugarcane sold to sugar mills.
The farmers of Punjab await `682 crore of dues, he claimed. In his first speech at a nationallevel political rally, Jakhar said potato growers were forced to dump their produce on roadside, while Prime Minister Narendra Modi was on foreign “site-seeing” tours.
He said the big gathering of farmers was a sign of anguish against the “pro-corporate central regime. He claimed that the Union food ministry had told the state not to give farmers bonus on wheat purchase.
