Ludhiana: Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee president Partap Singh Bajwa on Saturday said that the party would intensify protests if the government fails to solve the issue of non-procurement of crops. During his visit along with other Congress leaders to several grain markets of the district including Jagraon and Mullanpur, Bajwa claimed that not even a single bag of wheat was purchased from any ‘mandi’. “The farmers have been waiting for the last six to seven days for their grains to be purchased during the ongoing crop procurement season but no one has turned up,” Bajwa claimed. “We did not come across any representative of the procurement agencies in the grain markets,” he added. On Tuesday last, Congress’ Deputy Leader in Lok Sabha Amarinder Singh had blamed the Akali-BJP government in Punjab for the alleged distress sale of wheat by farmers as the state agencies “failed” to procure the produce on time.
