Ludhiana : Condemning the Moga incident as “most unfortunate and shameful”, Independent MLAs Simarjit Singh Bains and Balwinder Singh Bains have demanded a CBI inquiry into the “transport mafia” operating in the state. The Bains brothers said this during a media interaction here today.
Accusing the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) of patronising the “transport mafia”, Simarjit said: “On one permit, 10-12 private buses are running illegally.”
Answering a media query, he claimed that “these buses are owned by the Badals”. “It is imperative to hold a CBI inquiry into the transport mafia active in the state. Private buses are flouting rules with impunity. It is shocking how hooligans inside the bus snuffed out a girl’s life. Only when the issue was raised in the Lok Sabha did the authorities deem it fit to take action in the case,” said Simarjit.
Slamming the SAD-BJP government for “jungle raj” in the state, Simarjit said they had complete faith in the judiciary. “We would be helping the family of Somnath (who had immolated himself because of the “non-payment” of pension to him) pursue the case.” The Bains brothers have been on loggerheads with the Akali Dal ever since they announced that “Team Insaaf” formed by them would hold “satyagraha” against sand mafia, allegedly patronised by the ruling party, in the state.
On April 17, the Bains brothers and “Team Insaaf” members started the “satyagraha” from Chuharwal village in Kasabad sector of Ludhiana district, three days ahead of their scheduled programme. They were subsequently arrested and cases under various sections of the CrPC and IPC were slapped against them. Both the brothers were released on bailed out earlier this week.
Target Harsimrat too
The Bains brothers said Harsimrat Kaur Badal had “forfeited her right” to be minister. They said her initiative of “Nanhi Chhaan” was a mere “eyewash” as girls remained “unsafe” in the state.
Claim backing of SAD MLAs
Independent legislator Simarjit Singh Bains has claimed he has the political support of many SAD legislators. Refusing to elaborate, he said he would make the announcement at the right time.
