Moga : Baghpurana town witnessed high decibel protests on Friday as the Congress and the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leaders protested outside the police station and the office of DSP against the infamous Moga molestation murder case. Leaders of two parties gheraoed the police establishments by sitting just at the entrance of the offices.

Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee (PPCC) president Partap Singh Bajwa accompanied by Ludhiana MP Ravneet Singh Bittu, Jaitu MLA Joginder Singh Panjgarain, former MLAs Darshan Brar, Sukhpal Khaira, Inderjit Singh Zira and various other leaders sitting outside the Police Station announced to gherao the transport buses across the state from May 4, starting the movement from Mohali.

Bajwa also demanded the registration of case under Section 304-A of the IPC against the directors of the transport company including SAD president Sukhbir Singh Badal along. Congress leaders cited the case of Uber taxi service that was banned after the rape incident involving its driver in Delhi, while demanding that the transport company in question here should also be dealt with accordingly. Bittu too demanded that Bathinda MP and Union Minister Harsimrat Kaur Badal should tender apology in Parliament for consciously denying having knowledge of the ownership of the transport company.

AAP leaders including Sangrur MP Bhagwant Mann, Faridkot MP Prof Sadhu Singh and Patiala MP Dharamveer Gandhi also lashed out at the ruling party and the police officials. They all demanded the registration of the case under Section 304-A against all having financial stakes in the controversial transport company with a mention to ban the plying of such buses. Gandhi said: “We should stress on the revival of public transport companies in Punjab.” Leaders of the two parties lifted their dharna by 3 pm and then the AAP leaders assembled at Moga Civil Hospital in support of the victim’s family, while the Congress leaders staged dharna at the Grain Market in Moga to express their solidarity with farmers.

Family refuses to cremate victim

MOGA: Family of the teenage girl, who was killed after being molested and thrown off a moving in Punjab has refused to cremate her till the administration fulfils their demands for compensation and cancellation of the transport firm’s permit. Sukhdev Singh, father of the victim, said they would not cremate the girl till their demands are accepted including Rs 50 lakh compensation, employment to one member of the family and free treatment to the injured. The body of the girl has been kept in the mortuary of the Civil Hospital. DIG of Ferozepur Range Amar Singh Chahal told reporters that he also met the family to persuade them to perform cremation.
