Moga : Even after the family members of the deceased girl left the Civil Hospital in agreement with the state government to accept the compensation worth Rs 30 lakh in total, along with a job to the girl’s injured mother, Punjab Congress president Partap Singh Bajwa announced not to end the agitation.
Giving a call for an all-party meet to chalk out the future course of action to pull up the ruling party as well as the state government, Bajwa said, “I appeal to all opposition parties to assemble at 4 pm on Tuesday at Kingdom resorts in Moga to take this movement ahead.”
“No doubt the father of the deceased girl has agreed to receive the compensation and he had left for the postmortem and cremation of her, I hereby declare that the agitation against the system and the government will not end here. We will put our best to expose the high-handedness of the ‘tyrant’ rulers,” said Bajwa.
Meanwhile, he mentioned that whatever the line of the agitation was chalked out, the Congress won’t take law into their hands.
The PPCC president, flanked by Indian Youth Congress president Amarinder Singh Raja Warring, AICC spokesman Vijayinder Singla and others, also disclosed that earlier in the day he wrote to the President of India Pranab Mukherjee seeking dismissal of the Badal government for converting this once the most prosperous region into ‘mafia’ state.
“Apart from the lawlessness in the state, the ruling family has also virtually monopolised all forms of economic activity in the state ranging from transport, cable TV, sand mining, real estate, liquor, hospitality, renewable energy, government contracts, tenders, etc and in order to safeguard their interests in these sectors, they have reduced the Punjab Police into their private militia,” he added.
Asked about the status of ‘Moga Bandh’ call given by the Action Committee for Monday, Bajwa said, “The call was given by the Action Committee but as we too were the part of the committee, I, on behalf of Punjab Congress, say that we will participate in that and ensure its success.”
Bajwa and other leaders also raised anti-establishment slogans in the premises of the Civil Hospital.
Earlier, former Punjab Chief Minister and Congress leader Rajinder Kaur Bhattal also visited the victim family and assured her support. She did participate in the dharna but left the hospital premises within 10 minutes.
On the other hand, the Action Committee (an amalgam of over 50 unions, parties and organisations) was seen divided wherein the leaders of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) were virtually dominating the whole scene. Even when the state authorities were holding closed door meeting with the victim family in the patients’ general ward, AAP leader Jasraj Singh Longia had barged into it. He also had scuffle with a policeman objecting to his entry.
It was the leaders and activists of the AAP, who were sitting in the hospital premises till late evening and raising anti-establishment slogans.
