CHANDIGARH: Amid reports that Orbit had paid the family devastated in the Moga bus horror `20 lakh compensation, Punjab Congress Legislature Party (CLP) leader Sunil Jakhar on Sunday sought clarity whether this compensation would apply to the families affected in all such unfortunate incidents.

He also criticised Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) president Amit Shah for not taking notice of the Moga incident during his Punjab visit on Saturday. “The incident sparked national outrage but the BJP, which claims to be saviour of women, uttered not a word,” Jakhar mentioned in a statement issued here.

Punjab Congress spokesman Sukhpal Khaira said the government was going to bribe an exploited poor family with taxpayers’ money. “This is nothing but blood money, a bad law in certain Gulf countries, which promotes crime. The rich and the powerful such as the Badals can buy a compromise easily after murder,” he added.

Jakhar said that until Sunday, neither the chief minister nor the deputy CM had visited the victim family in Moga to express regret. “The temporary withdrawal of a few buses (of Orbit) is an attempt to buy time until the public anger settles. It is not going to put an end to the horror on wheels that has scared people across the state. All buses owned by the Badal family directly or indirectly should be banned,” he said.
