RUPNAGAR: The Bains brothers, both independent legislators, who have been vocal against the policies of the Parkash Singh Badal government in Punjab, on Tuesday announced to float a new political party.
Simarjit Singh Bains (right) with his brother Balwinder Singh. The duo claims to have surveyed Rupanagar, Hoshiarpur and Pathankot districts and say people are ready for an alternative.
Balwinder Singh Bains, MLA from Ludhiana South assembly seat, who recently set up a social platform, ‘Insaaf Group’, said here that he and his brother Simarjit Singh Bains, MLA from Atam Nagar assembly seat, would float a political a party to contest the 2017 assembly elections. Balwinder told reporters that he was meeting like-minded people to explore the possibility of forming a political party.
He said he had surveyed Rupanagar, Hoshiarpur and Pathankot districts and found that people of Punjab were looking for an alternative in the state.
“If any like-minded party, including the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) would like to share seats with us, we will take a call at the time of the elections,” he said.
Balwinder alleged that both Akali and Congress leaders were “part of the mafia” in Punjab.
He alleged that even Congress leader Capt Amarinder Singh was part of the syndicate and had played a role in ‘vacating’ the Dhuri assembly seat so that the SAD may gain majority in the Vidhan Sabha.
He said the Moga molestation case was a shameful act, alleging that “they (administration) have pressurised the family of the victim to strike a compromise with the Badal family,” he said.
