GURDASPUR: ‘Team Insaaf ’ leaders Balwinder Singh Bains and Simaranjit Singh Bains, popularly known as ‘Bains Brothers’ who are MLAs from Ludhiana district, on Wednesday visited Gurdaspur to extend their movement (satyagraha) launched on April 1 in Ludhiana to expose sand mafia and their alleged patrons in the state government.

Addressing a gathering at a small marriage palace here, Balwinder termed all the government departments ‘various mafias’. He remarked that sand mafia patronised by the Badals was a great source of corruption for them. He alleged that around `100 crore a day was earned by foul means by the Badals from the sand mafia. Bains said sand was not a small matter, rather it affected a large section of our society. He said if sand was not available, the construction labourers and others involved in the construction works would become jobless. The rates of sand were so high that it had gone out of the reach of the common man who wanted to build a house for his family, he claimed. He accused the Badal government of misusing the government machinery to discourage the volunteers of ‘Team Insaaf’ by implicating them in false cases and putting them behind the bars, whereas they were fighting for the rights of the common man of the state.

Bains said even the Abdali’s regime was better than that of the Badal’s regime, who “perpetrated atrocities on his political opponents”.

Speaking on the issue of Orbit bus incident in Moga, Bains launched a frontal attack on the Punjab Police, terming them “touts of the government”. He alleged that police officers acted as middlemen in virtually bribing the family of the teenage girl victim to pacify their ire against the Badals. Bains appealed to the people of Punjab to support ‘Team Insaaf ’ in their campaign to oust the Badals from power in the 2017 vidhan sabha elections.
