CHANDIGARH: Punjab Congress Legislature Party leader Sunil Jakhar on Wednesday slammed the state government for “low power generation” in the PSPCL thermal plants, terming it a deeprooted conspiracy to benefit private power generation companies in the state at the cost of consumers.

“The PSPCL is buying electricity at exorbitant rates ignoring the terms enlisted in the memorandum of understanding signed with private players,” he said, highlighting the Punjab State Electricity Regulatory Commission report that was released during the revision of the state’s power tariff for 2015-16.

Jakhar said commission chairperson Romila Dubey had belied deputy CM Sukhbir Singh Badal’s claim on surplus power in the state. He said she had revealed that the PSPCL was buying 3,500 million units of power during the paddy season. BATHINDA: Mohan Paul Singh Ishar joined Maharaja Ranjit Singh State Technical University as its first vicechancellor on Monday.
