Govt helping private power firms at people’s cost: Jakhar

Abohar : Leader of Opposition in the Punjab Vidhan Sabha Sunil Jakhar today said the slowdown in state-owned thermal power plants was part of a conspiracy that the SAD-BJP government was pursuing to benefit private power generation companies. This was being done at the cost of consumers by purchasing electricity at exorbitant rates, ignoring the terms enlisted in the memorandums of understanding.
He said Punjab State Electricity Regulatory Commission Chairperson Romila Dubey had belied “power-surplus” claim of Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal by revealing that Punjab State Power Corporation Limited was buying 3,500 million units of power. “Sukhbir perhaps tops among ruling politicians in northern states in making false claims about their achievements,” he said.
