MOGA: Lashing out at Punjab deputy chief minister Sukhbir Singh Badal, state Congress president Partap Singh Bajwa said the party’s agitation over the Moga bus incident would continue till the registration of a case under Section 304-A (causing death by negligence) of the Indian Penal Code against Sukhbir and the cancellation of permits of his buses. Talking to the media here on Friday, Bajwa said the Congress would also provide free legal aid to people who had suffered injuries in accidents involving buses owned by the Badal family.
Bajwa was here to attend Moga molestation victim Arshdeep Kaur’s bhog ceremony, which was held at a gurdwara in Lande Ke village on the outskirts of the town on Friday. Arshdeep, 13, had died after being thrown off an Orbit Aviation bus by her molesters on April 29.
Tight security arrangements were made by the local police for the ceremony, which was attended by Punjab agriculture minister Jathedar Tota Singh, besides several Congress leaders, including Bajwa. Officials of the local police, district administration and heads of several social and religious organisations were present on the occasion.
The organisers, belonging to the ruling Shiromani Akali Dal, did not allow anybody to address the gathering to pay homage to Arshdeep. No one from the Badal family or Orbit Aviation Private Limited attended the bhog ceremony. The granthi of the village gurdwara performed the antim ardas. Others who attended the ceremony included Amrinder Singh Raja Warring, president, All India Youth Congress; Vikramjit Chaudhry, president, Punjab Youth Congress; former MP Vijay Inder Singla; Kuldeep Singh Bhola, district secretary, Communist Party of India (CPI); Nirbhay Singh Dhudike, state president of the Kirti Kisan Union; Kuldeep Singh Dhos, state president of the farmers’ wing of the People’s Party of Punjab; Moga deputy commissioner Parminder Singh Gill; and senior superintendent of police (SSP) Jatinder Singh Khaira. The DC assured help to the victim’s family. HAND OVER PROBE TO CBI: WARRING
All India Youth Congress president and Gidderbaha MLA Amrinder Singh Raja Warring said the investigation into the Moga bus incident should be handed over to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). He said police were playing into the hands of the Badal family and registering false cases against students who were opposing the ‘illegal’ operation of Orbit buses across the state.
