Sultanpur Lodhi : Attacking the ruling alliance in the state, former Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh on Sunday said public anger against the government has reached to such an extent that the BJP has started feeling insecure in continuing their relationship with the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD).
Asserting that the SAD had grown so much ‘unpopular’, Captain Amarinder said, even their alliance partner BJP was waiting for the earliest opportunity to withdraw its support.
“The sooner the alliance collapses under the weight of its own contradictions, the better it will be for Punjab”, the Deputy Leader of the Congress in the Lok Sabha, said.
He also pointed out how the SAD and BJP leaders were contradicting each other on multiple issues. He condemned the alleged deteriorating law and order situation in Punjab and blamed the Chief Minister for it. He said, the ruling alliance had forgotten their responsibilities and were instead busy in amassing personal wealth that is now running into several thousand crore.
“It is so strange that while Punjab is getting poorer and poorer, the SAD is getting richer and richer,” he remarked.
Referring to the recent Moga incident where a young girl was molested and pushed down a running Orbit bus, which led to her death, the former Chief Minister said, it was because the people working for the company had become a law unto themselves and nobody dared to touch them.
Meanwhile, CLP leader Sunil Jakhar praised Capt Amarinder and said, he had even put his Chief Ministership at stake for the sake of Punjab’s waters when he repealed the Water Sharing Agreements.
He said, the ruling alliance should learn lessons from Capt Amarinder to put state’s interests above his personal interests.
