SULTANPUR LODHI (KAPURTHALA): Former Punjab chief minister and Amritsar Member Parliament captain Amarinder Singh has accused chief minister Parkash Singh Badal of ‘misusing power’ and being cruel towards the poor in the state.

Former chief minister Captain Amarinder Singh holding a sword presented by supporters at Thota Purana village near Sultanpur Lodhi in Kapurthala district on Sunday.

In town to attend the martyrdom day function of Baba Bir Singh at Thota Purana village in Sultanpur Lodhi, Amarinder said, “I have no problem with the Badals running businesses, but they should not misuse their power to either run or save their businesses.”

He added, “I used to call Badal as ‘Baba Bohar’ (an experienced elder person), but now Punjab has lost its sheen due to his vested interests and I have never seen a chief minister like him.”

He added that the source of funds for Badals’ businesses also needed to be probed.

Calling the Moga incident a shame for the state, he added, “I recently visited Moga to meet the family of the 13-year-old, who died after being thrown out of a bus, owned by the Badal family. The Badals have proved to be cruel. After the incident, they provided security to their buses. Even now, nobody knows whether these buses have permits or not.”

The Congress leader also claimed that the farmers had been left to fend for themselves and in spite of getting a grant from the Centre, the farmers had not been paid.

Congress Legislature Party leader and Abohar MLA Sunil Kumar Jakhar said, “With the Akalis having acquired all big businesses, the state government has no more remained a government, it has turned into a Sarkar Public Limited Company,” Jakhar added.
