AMRITSAR: The Congress burnt a 12-headed effigy of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to remind the people of his unfulfilled promises that had brought him to power 12-month back outside Hall Gate here on Thursday.

The protest was led by Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee (PPCC) secretary Dinesh Bassi.

The protesters carried placards reminding the public of the promises made by Modi during the campaign for the Lok Sabha polls last year.

“In the past one year, the PM has only given sermons through his ‘Man Ki Baat’ programme and failed to fulfill any of his promises. He should stop these sermons and start working,” stated Bassi, while addressing the protesters.

Lambasting the PM over the land acquisition bill, the Congress leader said the bill was nothing but an attempt to deprive the farmers of their land. “The PM wants to please the corporate from whom he had taken money for contesting the elections,” he claimed.

Referring to Modi’s rhetoric of bringing black money stashed in foreign banks, Bassi said so far nothing had been done on this front.

“The PM has back-stabbed the people of the nation, who had voted for him on this promise,” he added.

The Congress also attacked the NDA-government for failing to check unemployment and inflation. The PM had also promised to end terrorism in the country, but failed to do so, he added. The Congress leaders also reminded Modi of his promises of eradicating the drug menace from Punjab, stating till date nothing had been done on this front.
