Patiala : Congress Deputy Leader in the Lok Sabha Capt Amarinder Singh on Friday asked Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal as to what was “politicising” in flagging the farmers’ woes when he had failed them as the chief minister.

Reacting to Badal’s charges that he was politicising the issue of losses suffered by the farmers, Capt Amarinder Singh retorted: “What politicising is in it that I am pointing towards your miserable failures.” He said the damage to the standing crops was no doubt due to the nature’s fury but the damage caused to the wheat lying in mandis was totally because of Badal’s negligence.

Former chief minister pointed out the Reserve Bank of India had sanctioned a cash credit limit of Rs 14,640 crore for the rabi marketing season of 2015 for the procurement of wheat well on time on April 1. He said Badal as the Chief Minister of the state, that too the one who claims himself to be a farmer, should have known that by April 10 the mandis are full to capacity. He asked Badal as to why his government did not take appropriate measures despite having all the money at its disposal by making timely payment to the farmers and create space for fresh arrivals. Besides, he pointed out there was clear forecast about the rains.

“Apparently Badal, as usual, utilised the money sanctioned and released by the RBI somewhere else with the result payment to the farmers,” he said.
