MUKTSAR: Former Punjab chief minister and Congress deputy leader in the Lok Sabha Captain Amarinder Singh virtually relaunched his political activities in the core Malwa region by inaugurating the office of Congress MLA from Muktsar, Karan Kaur Brar, on Saturday.
Former chief minister and Congress MP Captain Amarinder Singh inaugurating the office of local MLA Karan Kaur Brar in Muktsar on Saturday.
Amarinder received a hero’s welcome here by Congress workers and it was his first political shot in the bastion of the Badals after being replaced by Partap Singh Bajwa as Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee (PPCC) president in 2012. The event is being seen as part of the decision by the Captain’s camp to increase the political activities across the state in the light of new political scenario that emerged after the ‘strong comeback’ by Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi from his much-hyped leave.
CAPT’S ABSENCE IN CORE BATHINDA REGION
Captain had earlier refrained from his political activities in the core Malwa region, especially in Bathinda, Muktsar and Mansa districts, and held only one rally at his native village Mehraj in Bathinda district in the past three years. He too remained absent from the region during parliamentary elections and Talwandi Sabo by-elections in 2014. Meanwhile, PPCC president Partap Singh Bajwa made all efforts to occupy the space left by Captain in Malwa and also formed his team in the region.
