Ludhiana : As the16th Lok Sabha completes one year on Saturday, the report card of Punjab MPs revealed that Ludhiana MP Ravneet Singh Bittu turned out to be the most vocal in terms of asking highest number of questions.
Diametrically opposite is the case of Ranjit Singh Brahampura, SAD MP from Khadoor Shaib and Vinod Khanna, BJP MP from Gurdaspur who kept mum in the parliament sessions during the year.
Anandpur Sahib SAD MP Prem Singh Chandumajra was next to Bittu as he asked 113 questions.
Giving voice to the people of his constituency and the state at large, Bittu raised 188 questions and participated in 25 debates.
His questions were related to delay in wheat procurement, relief to micro, medium and small enterprises, victims of terrorist attacks, Punjabi youth stranded in Iraq, due recognition to sacrifice of martyr Kartar Singh Sarabha etc.
In the terms of attendance during the various session of Lok Sabha in one year, Captain Amarinder Singh, Deputy Leader of Opposition and MP from Amritsar hardly attended the proceedings of Lok Sabha, whereas Union minister and MP from Hoshiarpur Vijay Sampla had the highest percentage of attendance with 97.
A look at the performance of Punjab MPs showed that MP from Amritsar Captain Amarinder Singh had a dismal record. He asked only 13 questions and participated in four debates with meagre ten per cent attendance even as he is the Deputy leader of Congress in the Parliament. Chandumajra participated in 51 debates with attendance record of 91 per cent.
Comedian-turned-politician Bhagwant Mann, Member of Parliament from Sangrur, asked 25 questions and participated in 52 debates with attendance record of 79 per cent. Contrary to expectations, Fatehgarh Sahib MP Harinder Singh Khalsa of Aam Aadmi Party did not participate in any debate unlike his party colleague and Sangrur MP Bhagwant Mann.
The records of Lok Sabha didn’t provide the track record of Union Minister and MP from Bathinda Harsimrat Kaur Badal. However, sources said that attendance record of Harsimrat Badal is above eighty per cent and being Union Mminister she rather replied to questions by MPs related to her portfolio.
