Probe Bhunder's confession on shielding peddlers: MLA

Bathinda : Following the claims of Rajya Sabha MP and senior SAD leader Balwinder Singh Bhunder over extending help to drug peddlers, Sardulgarh MLA and senior Congress leader Ajitinder Singh Moffar has demanded a CBI probe into the matter. Moffar alleged that the statement given by Bhunder had exposed the “nefarious” designs of the Akali Dal. “It is now clear that earlier, the party (SAD) was helping drug peddlers clandestinely but now it has openly helping drug smugglers,” Moffar said.
“Whether small or big, a drug peddler is a criminal. Moreover, what is the yardstick of differentiating between a small or big peddler?” he questioned.
The MLA said the speech of Bhunder was a testimony to the fact that the SAD had been patronising drug peddlers in the name of helping the poor. “An investigation should be done into the role of party workers of Shiromani Akali Dal in aiding drug peddlers,” Moffar said.
Announcing a massive agitation to be launched by the Mansa unit of the Congress in this regard, he said, “The issue will be brought into the notice of Congress president Sonia Gandhi and vice-president Rahul Gandhi so that they can take up the issue at the national platform,” Moffar said.
The Congress leader said that apart from the CBI probe, he also wanted the SAD to apologise for plunging the state into the “darkness of drugs”. Moffar said he chalk out the modalities of the agitation against Bhunder’s statements in a day or two.
