PaTIALA: Former Union Minister and local Congress MLA Preneet Kaur has strongly condemned the new cess of two per cent on petrol and diesel and an increase in the stamp fee imposed by the Akali-BJP alliance government. “It is a pity that ever since teh alliance has come to power, the Akali-BJP regime has been taxing the people by each passing day on one pretext or the other,” she lamented. “It is an excuse that the money collected from the imposed cess and increased stamp duty will be used for rural infrastructure and social security needs” she said. “As a matter of fact, the government has no money to foot the salary bill as many categories of employees have not received their pay and allowances for months, besides the government has not paid enhanced DA to its employees so far,” she said.
“I have come to know that the state government has already raised advance loan against the collections that have been projected for the next year into the Rural Development Fund,” claimed Kaur. “You must have heard governments and institutions mortgaging their properties to raise money for funding projects but the Akalis have started new trend of mortgaging its future fund collections for meeting day to day expense of the government,” she alleged.
Kaur remarked that the government had become bankrupt and had derailed the economy of the state. She further said that the rates of various fee being charged by the Department of Revenue have already been enhanced manifold and that the new taxes will hit the middle class the most “who have now lost their patience.”
