LUDHIANA: Resorting to a unique way of protest against the state government over hike in the prices of petrol, diesel and electricity, Congress district president Gurpreet Gogi got a BMW car pulled using a horse cart at Aarti Chowk on Saturday.
Congress workers pulling a car with a horse cart to mark protest against the state government at Aarti Chowk in Ludhiana on Saturday.
Gogi said, “People in the state are already reeling under heavy financial problems. Industrial units are also crying due to the unfavourable policies of the state government.” He said that in such a scenario, the government should have provided relief to the people but “chief minister Prakash Singh Badal had burdened them further.”
Gogi said that his party would organise protests against the imposition of additional taxes on petrol and diesel as well as 5% duty on electricity bills.
Three other Congress MLAs- Rakesh Pandey, Bharat Bhushan Ashu and Surinder Dawar- also held protests at Bhaiwala Chowk, Salem Tabri and Jagraon bridge against the state government.
Ashu said, “It is a regime of misgovernance in which taxes are imposed time and again by the state government without thinking about how they would break the backbone of the middle class.” It seems that the government lead by Prakash Singh Badal and his son deputy chief minister Sukhbir Singh Badal has lost the moral right to be in power, said Ashu.
