Chandigarh : “Theatrical premature release from the prison and startling reinstatement of dismissed cop Gurmeet Singh Pinki is a revealing study of the working of the Punjab Police. If we examine the villainous case of controversial former policeman, with clinical precision, from his contentious premature release from the prison to his controversial reinstatement in the police service, the entire development would reveal the stunning existence of criminal contour linked with each other, resulting into criminalising the working of the Punjab Police, from top to bottom,” Punjab Assembly’s former Deputy Speaker Bir Devinder Singh has said.

In a statement issued, here, he said, “The mysterious presence of grey areas, diseased of moral decay, at every step in the echelon of the police hierarchy, would completely blow apart hopes, even for compassionate justice. Unfortunately the very entry to corridors of power is stonewalled by the brokers, leaving no space and scope for the genuine breakthrough for the common man.” “Although the higher echelon of Punjab Police and the Home Department had balefully denied having any knowledge of the development that led to the reinstatement of the controversial former policeman, but fact of the matter is, that complicity in the grubby affairs from the Chief Minister to down below is established clearly on the files, beyond an iota of doubt. How could the state government release a convict, who is undergoing life imprisonment, without the approval under the requisite provisions of law, in such cases,” he questioned.

The firebrand Congress leader added: “If the top officials of the Home Department and police feign complete ignorance as to how the notorious former cop was suddenly reinstated and deployed with district police at Fatehgarh Sahib, would they also prefer to pretend the same amount of ignorance that pertain to his premature release from the prison.” “The corollary of events, stage by stage from his release to reinstatement, noting on both the files would find many similarities, profoundly recommending and vouching for the immaculate conduct and generous behaviour of the divisive cop, and thus warranting his premature release at the first instance, and his dramatic reinstatement subsequently,” he added.
