patiala: Former Chief Minister and Congress Deputy Leader in the Lok Sabha Captain Amarinder Singh has sought immediate suspension of Jaito Police Station (PS) Station House Officer (SHO) Amarjit Singh Kular for alleged delinquency and misbehaviour with the party legislator from Panjgraian Joginder Singh Panjgraian. “Think of 2017, when Akalis will themselves be running for cover. What will be your fate be if you continue to behave like this,” he said in a statement, while referring to the police officials who were allegedly misbehaving with the Congress leaders and legislators.

Captain Amarinder hoped that the Speaker of Punjab Vidhan Sabha Charanjit Singh Atwal will take a serious note of the issue and initiate action against the SHO for breach of privileges of an elected legislator. Former Chief Minister warned that protest demonstration would be held in case the SHO was not suspended by May 27, the ultimatum given to the government by the local party leadership.

“The particular SHO apparently at the behest of his political masters appears have become a law unto himself,” he observed, while wondering if he could behave with a public representative the way he did, how should he be behaving with the common people. Capt Amarinder said the behaviour of the particular SHO was reflective of the overall situation in Punjab as the SHOs were not answerable to their seniors but to the local jathedars.

“This SHO is clearly taking instructions from his political masters instead of his seniors and this is reflected in his behaviour,” he observed while warning that the year 2017 was not that far when all such police officials would have to run for cover along with the Akalis for intimidating the Congress workers and leaders. It is worth mentioning that the Assembly polls are due in Punjab in 2017.
