Ludhiana : After protesting against the fuel hike and levying power surcharge against the state government, the Congress party chalks out the strategy for agitation against the Municipal Corporation.
The Congress councillors held a meeting with Member Parliament Ravneet Singh Bittu and apprised him of the functioning of the Ludhiana Municipal Corporation. After the meeting the Congress party give an ultimatum of 15 days to the Municipal Corporation to sort out the developmental issues else lead the party councillors including the councillor candidates along with their MLAs, block presidents, ward presidents, Congressmen along with the residents of the city on an agitation path.
MP Ravneet Singh Bittu said, if the Municipal Corporation fail to act with regard to the development works in next 15 days, the premises of the Mayor and Municipal Commissioner will be locked for non-performance of their duties.
The councillors lamented that barring few roads all are in a pathetic condition and are crying for patch work. There is no provision for street lighting in all parts of the city, contamination of drinking water is rampant with no arrangement of chlorination in tubewells, sewers remain blocked, cleanliness not being undertaken by the outsourced A to Z Company routinely. It was felt that the sterilisation and immunisation of stray dogs is not being implemented on the required scale but is being carried out in selected wards. The non-availability of rabies vaccines in the Ludhiana Civil Hospital also cropped up.
