PATIALA: To take up issues of Punjab with the Central government, AAP member of Parliament from Patiala Dharamvira Gandhi has written a letter to Punjab chief minister Parkash Singh Badal, requesting him to call an all-party meeting of membersof Parliament(MPs) before the start of every session of Parliament .

Gandhi proposed that preplanning before parliamentary sessions would help in building pressure on the Central government collectively regarding the fulfilment of demands, either it be waiving of loans, agrarian crisis, a special package to the state, or adequate compensation to farmers.

“Chief ministers of southern and eastern states follow a practice of discussing with and briefing all members of Parliament, representing the state, regardless of their political affiliations on important issues concerning the respective state,” Gandhi stated. He added that it has been observed that all the members of Parliament of these states lobby and jointly put forward before the Central government the issues concerning their states in Parliament.

Therefore, the Punjab chief minister must also hold such meetings to equip parliamentarians with pressing demands of the state, supplemented by requisite data before the start of monsoon session of the Lok Sabha, Gandhi said.
