Chandigarh : The state Congress has warned the Parkash Singh Badal government in the state against the snapping of electricity supply to water works and RO systems due to non-payment of bills in a number of villages.

They have threatened to hold a statewide agitation if these connections are not restored immediately.

In a statement, party MLAs Lal Singh Tript Rajinder Bajwa, Sukh Sarkaria and Parminder Pinky said, “On one hand, the Badal government continues to supply free power to farmers, while on the other, power supply to water works that supplies potable water to the entire village is being snapped due to non-payment of bills. The government is forgetting the fact that it is the people’s right to have access to potable water.”

The Congress leaders pointed out that free power to the farm sector cost the government over Rs 5,000 crore per annum.
