Chandigarh : Sunil Jakhar, Leader of Opposition, today demanded a special session of the Assembly to discuss the financial condition of the state.
In a press statement, Jakhar urged Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal to discuss the financial condition of Punjab and to lay down the facts on the table of the House pertaining to the grants received and its utilisation during the previous NDA government (1999-2004), the UPA government under Manmohan Singh (2004-2014) and the present Narendra Modi government.
He said that the Chief Minister had accepted in the House that the state was in poor financial condition and that the state government is in dire need of a special economic package from the Centre. He said that the people of the state had the right to know its actual financial condition.
He said that the Congress-led central government had put Punjab in the category of the states with poor financial condition during the 13th Finance Commission.
“Now BJP-Akali led Centre hasn’t mentioned the state in the report of the 14th five-year Finance Commission (2015-2020),” he said.
Sunil Jakhar told the Chief Minister to stop the distribution of public money to “sycophants” during sangat darshan.
